Transitioning from being a kid into an adult is hard. Those formative years are often the most impactful and memorable a person will experience. It's a time of navigating uncharted waters as the child figures out how to juggle new responsibilities, new complications, and new relationships. Unfortunately, our children do not have the safety net of a loving and supportive family that most do. As our children began growing up into young men and women we knew that we couldn't be another adult that abandons them... and thus our transition program "More Than Conquerors" was born.
When our children turn 18, it's time for them to leave our nest where they've comfortably lived safe and warm for years. We don't just kick them out and hope they don't get eaten by the predators waiting below. We continue investing in their lives, and walk with them through this new phase of life into adulthood. Through the help of both Americans and Guatemalans, we are able to support them until they can fly independently. Through American sponsors we are able to fund 100% of their tuition as they pursue a career path and a brighter future (through university or technical school). We also partner with Christian Guatemalan families to house them, meet their daily needs, and continue to disciple them. If we can’t find a Guatemalan house for one of our young people to move into, we welcome them into our own homes. As of January 2023, Shane is housing 4 young men in his home; Cole and Sarah are housing 2 young ladies.
The program was thus named, because they are more than conquerors through Christ. Christ has restored hope and joy to them, where sorrow and helplessness once ruled their lives. Through Christ, they have conquered oppression, abuse, abandonment, and poverty. God has sovereignly rescued them out of desperate circumstances, and placed them in our care to love and restore them. They are free from the physical and spiritual bondage that once kept them in darkness. They have conquered much in their lives, and it is only through Jesus Christ's sovereign hand over the lives. For if God is for them, who can be against them? Now that they have reached the physical age of adulthood, a new phase of life has begun. They have moved up in the ranks to the front lines, and will continue to conquer the cycle of poverty and abuse that once held them captive.
We are so proud of our world conquerors!
